Outage Update – September 28, 2024

Update: As of 6 p.m., BARC has around 600 members off in 49 different locations.

We expect crews to be working on outages this evening and more tomorrow morning, as well. Which means we will have members off through this evening and advise for them to make backup arrangements, if necessary.

We appreciate that we now have mutual aid assistance from Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative. Thank you for coming this way to help!

BARC currently has 975 members without power, with 63 individual outage locations. All crews are dispatched and actively working to restore power. BARC has multiple broken poles, numerous spans of wire down, stripped pole tops, etc. We have been informed that mutual aid is coming in later today to help with restoration efforts and a road will need to be built to reach an inaccessible pole to be replaced. Our crews have another long day ahead of them, with their safety still remaining as top priority.

Reminder: If you come across a downed power line you should stay as far away from it as possible. Treat all downed wires as if they are “hot”. Never attempt to touch or move a downed power line or to remove trees from power lines. Downed power lines should be reported immediately.

For those running generator, be sure to follow the safety guidelines so you don’t put yourself or the lives of others in danger: https://barcelectric.com/generator-safety/
