JUNE 19, 2022 POWER OUTAGE UPDATE AS OF 8:15 pm: Crews have continued working today to repair damage to our electric system caused by storms Friday afternoon. The extensive damage broke more than 20 power poles across our system, downed power lines and disrupted service with 1 transmission line and 3 distribution lines. At the height of the outage period, BARC had about 7,900 electric customers without service.

As of now, there are still about 225 electric customers on our system that do not have power. First and foremost, we value all our members and want you to know you have not been forgotten. Unfortunately, right now it looks like restoration efforts will continue for some areas into Monday, June 20th. We apologize for this prolonged outage and truly appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding and support. Likely, you have certainly seen the amount of damage created Friday and our crews are working as safely and quickly as possible to restore power.

Power restoration is a process. We understand that when our customers have been without power for many hours or days, it is extremely inconvenient, and we do apologize. Crews begin restoration efforts with 3-phase circuits and at substations. This allows crews to progress outward, making repairs and noting damage to the electric system. Restoration occurs in segments, and as the outward progression continues, they will isolate damage and restore tap lines to restore power that serve the most customers or that require the least amount of time. As restoration continues, crews will them progress to tap and service lines. Unfortunately, smaller tap lines serving small numbers of homes and long tap lines serving single services get restored last.

We want to explain this to you because we are in the tap and service line phase now as crews are continuing making repairs and this is taking some additional time.

On the eastern side of our system in Rockbridge County there are still about 150 customers without power in Irish Creek, Vesuvius, South River, Rt. 11 south, members served by our Lexington substation, and Brattons Run.

On the western side of our service area, there are about 35 customers without power in the areas of upper airport, Coles Mountain, Big Lick (Lake Moomaw), Perry Hollow, Elks Camp, Pads Creek and Campbell Hollow.

We cannot say enough that we understand prolonged outages can be frustrating and we appreciate your patience and understanding. Our team is working to get to you all and restore your power. Thank you for hanging in there!
