BARC prepares for freezing conditions Friday morning

Update as of 10:30 p.m.: Crews will return home after the last restoration at 11 p.m. so they can prepare for a challenging day tomorrow. Any new outages after 11 p.m. will have delayed responses until early Friday morning. We apologize for any inconvinence this may cause and appreciate your patience and support of our crews safety.

Due to current precipitation, freezing conditions and anticipated wind events, BARC is encouraging members to prepare for potential outages and dangerously cold conditions early Friday morning.

In the event of a power outage, crews will respond as quickly and safely as possible to restore service. We encourage everyone to stay off the roads until the storm has fully passed to allow emergency responders and line crews to safely do their jobs. Please keep in mind unsafe and treacherous road conditions may increase BARC’s response time to outages. In the event that you should come in contact with a downed power line, do not approach the line or attempt to remove trees or limbs from power lines as power could still be present.

BARC encourages all members to keep the following supplies on hand in preparation for long-term outages at home: fully charged devices, food (three-day supply of nonperishables), flashlights, first-aid kit/prescriptions, extra batteries/wireless phone chargers and extra blankets. Members with medical conditions that rely on power are advised to have an emergency plan in place if power outages persist longer than any back-up energy sources they have.

BARC’s control center and member services representatives will continue to be available 24/7, and members are encouraged to report any power outages by calling 800-846-2272 or online at barcelectric.com. For your safety, please do not use social media to report power outages or share personal information like an address.
