Groundworker Construction
BARC Electric, a member-owned electric cooperative with headquarters in Millboro, Virginia, seeks a qualified applicant to fill the position of Groundworker stationed from our Millboro Office.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Assists in the construction and maintenance of electric and fiber plant, including: Pulling cable, Framing and setting poles, Grounding and transformer establishing proper connections, Underground cable installation with proper connections
- Installation of overhead lines
- Anticipates lineman’s needs and supplies him with the materials and tools requested
- Maintains and takes proper care for tools and equipment
- Expected to operate with line truck and other equipment as necessary
- Assists in scheduled and unscheduled outages as required
- Participates in the on-call program as required
- Learn RUS specifications
- Additional duties as assigned by the Foreman and Management
- Performs other duties appropriate to a Groundworker position
Relating to Safety:
- Informs other employees of any unsafe condition that exists or may arise during construction or maintenance operation and assists in correcting the situation
- Able to perform bucket rescue, and general first aid including adult CPR and automatic external defibrillator.
- Knows proper method of summoning aid on two-way radio
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Maintain a Medic First Aid Certificate
- Maintain VDOT Work Zone Safety Certification (flagging training)
- Obtain AED certification
- Will be required to have a CDL Learners within six (6) months of hire date
- Within six (6) months of accepting this position, this Groundworker’s role is projected transition into our Lineman Apprenticeship Program.
Be advised, there is a provisional $1.50 hourly wage increase up the completion of Groundworker’s certification and a satisfactory six (6) month review.
