GenerLink™
With the increase of home offices, electronic equipment and reliance on electricity, many homeowners have purchased a portable generator for use in their home during power outages. However, they may lack a safe and economical way to connect their generator.
Ensure your portable generator works with the GenerLink™ by calling 800-886-3837. It is the customer’s responsiblity to verify their generator is compatible with GenerLink™. Please Note: GenerLink must be purchased and installed through BARC.
For members using a generator or wanting to purchase a generator, BARC Electric Cooperative offers GenerLink™, a meter collar device installed on your electric meter that allows you to easily connect a generator to your home during outages. With GenerLink™ you simply plug in the generator and use your household main circuit panel to select the circuits and appliances you want to operate based on the generator capacity.
Models | Max Generator Continous Wattage | Surge Protection (75kA per phase) |

MA23-S | 7,200 W | YES |
MA24-S | 9,600 W | YES |
Please note that portable generators are not strong enough to power your entire home. First, decide which appliances you plan to use during an outage and calculate how much power they require. Then, select a generator whose running wattage is large enough to power these appliances.
In most cases, you will want to purchase a generator whose running wattage is between 4,400 and 10,000 watts.
Generators smaller than 4,000 watts are generally ill-suited for powering a home during an outage as they cannot start many appliances.
Generators larger than 10,000 watts are often expensive, difficult to move, noisy, and will not work with the GenerLink transfer switch.
Safe
GenerLink™ provides a safe means for connecting a portable generator to your home, and it automatically disconnects your home from BARC’s power grid when the generator is connected and producing power. It prevents risky do-it-yourself solutions that can be hazardous for you, your family and BARC crews working to restore power.
Simple
Generlink™ is simple to use and easily installed. A BARC employee will connect this and should not take more than 30 minutes. Once connected, you just plug your generator into GenerLink™.
The unit BARC offers is rated for 30 or 40 AMPS (depending on generator) and has built-in surge protection. Comes with a standard 20 foot cord. Longer cords are available at an additional charge.
Flexible
GenerLink™ offers you total flexibility and control. You simply select the circuit or appliances you want to run using your home’s circuit panel. Unlike other generator connections, you can change your appliance selections at any time using Generlink™.
