Rates & Tariffs
As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, BARC's rates are based on its costs of providing electric service to its members. BARC only recovers its costs of service, plus a small operating margin which is retained as equity and ultimately returned to members as patronage capital refunds (capital credits).
BARC offers several rate classes based on the service characteristics of the load. The rates for each class of service are established by BARC and approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission.
Each rate is made up of several components. A summary of BARC's rates for residential and commercial customers is summarized in the table below. PDF copies of each of BARC's rate tariffs follow.
The rates below are updated monthly.
100% Renewable Energy Attributes Electric Service (89 KB) Available on a voluntary basis as a companion rate to any customer who wishes to purchase 100% of their electric service from renewable energy sources.
Demand Rider OD-16 (168 KB) Rider reflecting the decrease in rates effective 1/1/2016.

Schedule PV (Community Solar) (190 KB) Supports our Community Solar offering by creating a subscription model whereby BARC members can subscribe to a portion of the solar energy output at a fixed rate for 20 years.
Schedule QF (Small Power Production Facilities) (70 KB) Available to consumers with small power production facilities that qualify under section 210 of the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA) and which have a total design capacity of between 100 to 1,000 kW.

Self-Generated Load Rider (485 KB) Available upon request to customers purchasing electric service from the Cooperative under Schedule LP1-U and who have a monthly demand of 500 kW or more, and who have customer-owned generation which can be operated during unspecified hours of any month to reduce the customer's demand.
Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment Clause (WPCA) (213 KB) Applies to changes in BARC's cost of wholesale power and their effect on BARC's rates.
