27-Jun-2019June 2019 Construction Update

Longer periods of sunshine and warmer weather let us know that summer has arrived here in the Shenandoah Valley. While lightning bugs light up the night skies, BARC Connects continues by day to light up residential and commercial consumers with our broadband services. In April we let you know that we had made adjustments with our construction and deployment of service to get customers connected as quickly as possible. We know everyone is anxious to have service and we are excited to say these efforts are paying off and consumer installations have increased over the last several weeks.

Mainline construction is complete for the following areas:

• Fairfield south to Cornwall substation

• Conrock south to Effinger substation

• Effinger to Rt. 60 (Jacktown Road)

We are forecasting that mainline construction will be complete by the end of July for all BARC Electric areas that are part of Phase 1 construction. Drop construction is underway in all of the above areas and will continue past July. We are working diligently to get everyone that is currently signed up connected in the above areas within the next 6-8 months.

Mainline fiber installation along Rt. 11 North for non-BARC Electric customers is continuing into July. Crews replaced several RANA vaults along this corridor and pulled in additional fiber to serve a larger number of customers. Once complete, efforts will focus on service connections along the Rt. 11 corridor, as well as along Rt. 60 east and west, and downtown Lexington.

In addition, we continue to look at extensions of our fiber service outside the current eligible area. Five recent areas moving ahead to construction are:

1. Goose Creek Rd.

2. Part of Brownsburg Turnpike (BARC Electric customers)

3. Timber Ridge Rd (Cornwall West)

4. Hillcrestview Rd (Near Eastview Ln)

5. Part of Ridge Rd (Raphine) – north of Oakland Circle

MORE GOOD NEWS!!! We have reached a critical mass of signups and will be moving ahead with fiber service to the Providence Hill neighborhood in the City of Lexington. Information has been sent to residents eligible for service on how to sign-up. Additional information regarding construction and installation timelines will be sent out in the near future. Please spread the word!

TAKE ACTION NOW: If you are a resident along the Route 60 west corridor on the Rockbridge side of the city / county line to Big Spring Drive, time is running out to get your free service drop to your home. Customers wanting service along this area must sign-up for service by July 15th to be eligible for the promotional offer. A notification was sent to homeowners in mid-June.

There are still free service drops available for BARC Electric customers living in eligible areas north of I-64 and west of I-81, as well as along Raphine Road, and in the Mount Vista and Greenhouse Road areas. Interested customers can check their eligibility for service at http://shop.barcconnects.net or by calling our office at the number below.
