BARC Electric Cooperative Partners with GovTrails to Deliver the First Ever Utility Rate Visualization Tool for Members.
To simplify electric rates, BARC launches a new tool for member engagement.
Millboro, VA – May 16, 2018 – BARC Electric Cooperative (BARC) today announced they have partnered with GovTrails, located in Charlottesville, VA, to deliver the first ever Electric Rate Visualization Tool. BARC is again leading the way in open and transparent communication so that members can better understand electric rates and how they recover for the annual costs of service. The visualization enables members to see how their monthly electric consumption relates to BARC’s Energy Sales, Expenses (such as purchased power and operating costs), and Margins.
Chief Executive Officer Mike Keyser commented that, “This unique visualization takes a complex subject – rate and financial data – and converts it into digestible knowledge that is easier for members to understand and absorb. Electric rates can be challenging to understand for cooperative members. We have tried to bridge that gap through this first-of-its-kind tool. Our members can now stay up-to-date on current electric rates and see how they factor into to the bigger picture.”
GovTrails Founder Lucas Ames commented that, “I've enjoyed working with BARC Electric Cooperative on this innovative concept. We believe strongly in the ideals of clarity and transparency and are thrilled to have found a visionary partner in BARC. Their commitment to making cooperative utility rates and financials clearer and more transparent was the driving force in this project and we look forward to sharing their vision with others in this field."
BARC Electric Cooperative is a customer-owned electric cooperative serving 13,000 residents, farms and businesses across five counties in Virginia.
