BARC and Rockbridge County Public Schools Continue Career and Technology Education Partnership
BARC donation will be used to advance STEM pathway programs for students at Rockbridge County High School
Millboro, VA – BARC Electric Cooperative (BARC) announced Wednesday it has donated $5,000 to the Rockbridge County Public School (RCPS) system to be used for educational programs needing additional resources to advance programs for students. During the November 6, 2018 School Board meeting BARC CEO Mike Keyser presented the funds to the Rockbridge County High School (RCHS) Principal, Mike Craft, and the Rockbridge County School Board.
BARC and RCPS have a long-standing partnership that has focused on educational programs and developing a strong workforce pipeline for the region. Over the last few years, BARC has provided grants, access to its community solar learning center and solar array, paid internships, and letters of support, enabling the school system to launch its own Solutions Energy & Power STEM pathway.
Earlier this year, as part of the broadband construction project in Rockbridge County, BARC designed a fiber network for the entire school system ensuring RCPS students have reliable internet in all county schools. BARC is proud to have continuing opportunities to partner with RCPS related to STEM academies, workforce development and educational programs, and services to provide greater opportunities to students in the community.
“BARC believes in the future of all Rockbridge County students and in our community as a whole. By partnering with the Rockbridge County Public School System to promote and strengthen key pathway programs, we are helping students to increase their knowledge while building a foundation for their future success.” said Mike Keyser, BARC’s CEO.
BARC Electric Cooperative is a customer-owned electric cooperative serving 13,000 residents, farms and businesses across five counties in Virginia. To continue to serve and meet the needs of its members, BARC constructed the first community solar garden in the Commonwealth and provides high-speed Internet, telephone and television service through BARC Connects, its wholly-owned fiber-to-the-home subsidiary. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer. To learn more about all the exciting things happening at BARC, visit www.barcelectric.com and www.barcconnects.net.
