BARC donation will be used to advance Career and Technical pathway programs for students in Bath County Public Schools
Millboro, VA – BARC Electric Cooperative (BARC) announced Monday it has donated $5,000 to the Bath County Public School (BCPS) system to be used for educational programs needing additional resources to advance programs for students. During the December 4, 2018 School Board meeting BARC COO Jamie Lowry presented the funds to the Bath County Schools Division Superintendent, Sue Hirsh, and the Bath County School Board.
BARC and BCPS have a long-standing partnership that has focused on educational programs to develop a strong workforce pipeline for the region. In 2017, BARC and BCPS partnered on the largest solar array installation in Virginia public schools that both provided renewable energy for the school system and included special monitoring equipment enabling students at all three schools to watch real time energy production to see how their systems are performing and to compare with the other schools.
BARC is proud to have continuing opportunities to partner with BCPS to promote career and technical education in the renewable energy field that assist with workforce development and educational programs to benefit students and the community.
“BARC believes in the future of all Bath County students and in our community as a whole. Partnerships with the Bath County Public School System grow key programs and enrich the overall education of students increasing their knowledge in the energy field while building a foundation for their future success.” said Mike Keyser, BARC’s CEO.
BARC Electric Cooperative is a customer-owned electric cooperative serving 13,000 residents, farms and businesses across five counties in Virginia. To continue to serve and meet the needs of its members, BARC constructed the first community solar garden in the Commonwealth and provides high-speed Internet, telephone and television service through BARC Connects, its wholly-owned fiber-to-the-home subsidiary. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer. To learn more about all the exciting things happening at BARC, visit wwwbarcelectric.com and www.barcconnects.net.
